“WHO AM I HERE?”
Paulina Merz
A girl who is a translator as well as a teacher and she has lots of passions. She loves singing not only in the shower, but also as a member of a choir. A soul which is still looking for its place and it needs to create all the time.
CHASING DREAMS
I’ve always dreamed to study English Philology and after five years of studies – I achieved it! My dream came true. I got my BA degree of English Philology and Translation Studies and then I got MA degree where I had also some culture and media. What’s more, I decided to study Pedagogy which helped me to become a teacher. My time at university will always be in my mind. I loved my faculty, people I met, knowledge I gained. I appreciate lots of joyous and funny moments as well as some stressful and sad times. But what is the most important – all those things were kept in balance.
IN YOUR LIFE DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO
When I finished my studies, I started my first job at language school. I also began to teach at home. I often translate different texts as a freelancer. It makes me happy – I love working with children and teenagers. I’m glad to see their progress. Recently, I’ve noticed that translations makes me feel satisfied. Not only I learn and improve my language skills but also I have a possibility to discover new areas which have been completely unfamiliar to me.
TRANSLATIONS – MY NEW LOVE
I like translating but I can’t say that I have warm feelings toward all kind of translations in every moment of my life – but it happens to most of translators, I guess. For me, the best texts to translate are lyrics and other cultural or artistic writings. Now, I try to become more professional translator and don’t translate texts just as a hobby. I made some translation courses and I’m a qualified translator so now it’s high time I found my own place in translation industry.
AND WHEN I FINALLY HAVE SOME TIME
In my free time, I read books, watch movies, and above all, I listen to music. I love traveling. All of these elements build one thing – my life – that is why I can create new translations, poems and essays. Since I was a child, I’ve been writing different texts but I’ve never published them anywhere… I could sit whole days and write crazy, teenage adventures where someone could find my own stories. However, these days I love writing poems. I do it during journeys and especially at night because that’s a magical and inspiring time for me.
